Association of Mountaineering Instructors

Multi pitch climbing is the ultimate goal for many climbers because it opens up a whole other world of climbing venues. This 2 day introduction to multi pitch climbing course is ideal for those who have been climbing for a while and want to get leading their own multi pitch routes safely. All of our courses are based entirely in the Snowdonia National Park and you will be taught by one of our highly experienced and qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors (MCI).
Course content
The course will be delivered exclusively in Snowdonia – the home of british trad climbing. The aim of the 2 days is to climb as much as possible to maximise learning opportunities. We will take you through the process of preparing, climbing and building an anchor to bring up a second and we will cover the following as we do:

  • Venue choice
  • Using guide book
  • Selection and use of equipment
  • Placing and removing protection
  • Rope management
  • Belaying
  • Problem solving
  • Retreating/Abseiling safely

We will begin the day at 9am in a cafe to look at options as the weather will dictate where we end up. We should be finished for 4:30pm for a debrief. You don’t need any of your own equipment as it can be provided but you are welcome to bring your own to use. Ratios are 1 instructor to 2 climbers to ensure maximum learning in a realistic setting.
