4 day Mountaineering Course

This is a 4 day mountaineering course that will cover a variety of skills needed to explore the UK’s classic mountain routes. Aimed at relative novices looking to gain confidence to venture to more remote areas to climb classic scrambles or easy climbs. The course cost is for up to 2 people. See below for further details.

Our 4 day Mountaineering course is aimed at those who who want to quickly gain the skills and confidence to get out to experience climbing and scrambling safely in more remote mountainous regions.

We will take you through the preparation for climbing a route – equipment, venue choice, route selection; the technical skills – belaying, anchor selection, placing protection and rope management; Safety skills – Abseiling, simple problem solving and retreating from a route.

Course content
All of our courses are based in and around Snowdonia National Park. You will be taught by one of our highly experienced and qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors (MCI). The following list is a sample of what will be covered during the week.

  • Rope management

  • Problem solving
  • Retreating/Abseiling safely
  • Navigation in the mountains

Day 1 will be a morning looking at planning and weather followed by an afternoon in the mountains looking at movement skills, route finding and mountain navigation.
Day 2 will be a day of scrambling and ropework looking at belaying, placing protection and route selection.
Day 3 will be a classic rock climb looking at more complex belays, placing more protection and some simple problem solving
Day 4 will be a choice of another classic rock climb; more roped scrambling (Grade 2 or 3) or a mountain skills day (weather permitting).
A typical day will begin at 9am and we should be finished for 5pm for a debrief and cake. You don’t need any of your own equipment as it can be provided but you are welcome to bring your own to use. Ratios are 1 instructor to 2 climbers to ensure maximum learning in a realistic setting.
Some basic climbing experience is recommended to get the most out of the 4 days (tying in, belaying, putting on a harness)If you think you need some more experience before booking on to this course, book on to our Introduction to rock climbing course.
