Meet Your Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor

I am a highly experienced climber and qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI).
My name is Anthony and I run Higher Climbing from the edge of Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. I provide high quality mountaineering instruction and guiding in Rock Climbing, Scrambling, Mountain walking and Mountain Skills.
My aim is to give you memorable and safe instruction, coaching and guiding so you can become an independent and safe mountaineer, climber, scrambler or walker.
For nearly 20 years I have climbed all over the UK and Europe, including the French Alps and Polish Tatra and various trips to Spain for sport climbing. In that time, I have been introducing and instructing people in rock climbing and mountaineering for at least the last 10 years. Starting with when I was at university to now as a qualified Mountaineering and Climbing instructor (MCI). This is the highest rock climbing and summer mountaineering qualification in the UK.
I live on the edge of Snowdonia with my wife, our son, and our collie who sometimes joins me while working.
In addition to being an MCI, I am also a qualified teacher of science.
Accreditations and Certifications
I’m proud to be a member of the Association Of Mountaineering Instructors, the representative body for professionally qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors in the UK and Ireland. Members are required to stay current with ongoing personal development and agree to a code of conduct which can be downloaded here.
In order to become a full member you have to have many years of rock climbing and mountaineering experience, attend a 9 day training course, gain more experience before attending a 5 day final assessment. This means when you hire someone who is a member you are getting an assurance of quality.
Snowdonia - The Home of Mountaineering
Home to iconic mountains, amazing scrambling and some of the best rock climbing in UK. There’s dozens of rock climbing venues with 100s of routes and they are condensed into a relatively small area. This means there’s virtually always somewhere to climb and you don’t have to travel very far from where you are staying to access the crags. This makes Snowdonia an ideal place to learn the following skills:
- Mountaineering
- Rock climbing (Multi-pitch, Sea Cliffs, lead climbing)
- Scrambling (roped and unroped)
- Mountain safety Skills
- Environmental awareness
